I was commissioned to design this cover series for the new edition of a collection of classic Arabic literature entitled Al Rawa’eh (الروائع) by the late poet and writer Fouad Ephreim Al-Boustany.
I used the 1977 edition’s cover as a skeleton for my layout, then did a digital collage using hand drawn strokes of a calligraphy pen, and the texture of Indian hand-made paper.
The typography features “Bowie,” a custom typeface that I designed in 2017.
Each of the center circular pieces frame a classic work of art from each of the respective eras of the books’ contents: the portrait of Antarah Ibn Shaddad from the Pre-Islamic Arabian era, and a painting from the Islamic Golden Age.
